Village History ~ an introduction

Since before the Norman Conquest there has been a manor house at Kingston. Turchil, the Saxon owner, fell at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. William the Conqueror's men seized his lands and they were later leased to Ralph de Bachepuise whose family remained at Kingston for over two centuries. During this time the name of the village became Kingston Bagpuize. There is still a village in Normandy called Bacquepuis.
