Monday 21st January
KBS Village Action Group housing update

Witney Road (P12/V1836/0)

On Wednesday 9th January at the Abbey House VOWH offices, the planning committee APPROVED the Outline application submitted by St John's College. Details of the meeting are available here. As you will see, there are reasonable grounds for us to pursue a procedural complaint... and we will let you know the outcome.

Draycott Road (P12/V2653/FUL)

The FULL application for 98 houses on the horses field was submitted on the 20th December, and registered by the planning department on the 2nd January. The planning site indicates (at 21st Jan) the decision date for this application as the 27th February. Updates to the content under the application indicate this has now been deferred to the 26th April, but I think we've learned already that factual and timely communication is not the Vale's strong point...

As a FULL detailed application this site could be built on immediately after approval - and the applicants have expressed a desire to start as quickly as possible. If you object to this loss of important green space in the village, you MUST write to the council urgently. You can do so either online, or via post - see details below.

Town Pond Lane (P12/V2649/FUL)

The action group have just been made aware of an application submitted to built 2 Chalet style bungalows (3 Bed) on the entrance to Town Pond Lane. This application will be discussed at the next KBS Village Action Group meeting.

You can view the details of all these applications and lodge your objection on the VOWH Council planning website: http://www.whitehorsedc.gov.uk/services-and-advice/planning-and-building/find-application

Alternatively, write to the council at:

Housing on Draycott Road

Kemp and Kemp along with their client Taylor Wimpey met with the Parish Council on 6th November in the presence of 30+ villagers to present their proposals for the land off Draycott Road behind the Village Hall. This was followed on 8th November by a public exhibition of Taylor Wimpey's proposal in the Village Hall. All the professionals involved in the project exhibited their work. The scheme proposes 98 dwellings (40% affordable homes) served by a single access off Draycott Road.

KBS Village Action Group along with the Parish Council is opposed to this development on the grounds of 'too much too soon' and in the absence of a cogent policy by the Vale of White Horse. Taylor Wimpey have been allowed not to produce an Environmental Impact Assessment and they are aiming to apply for full (detailed) planning permission soon.

The Village Meeting on Saturday 13th October to discuss the full impact of the Vale's Housing Land Supply Policy and the first planning applications resulted in an attendance of nearly 200 villagers. Asked who was in favour of these proposals not one hand was raised.  A detailed description of the whole process was presented and information on how to make views known was distributed.

The general tone of the meeting was that the proposals are not sustainable and objections on that basis would be submitted.  There was a call for further and better information in the form of our own surveys and studies and the steering group along with the Parish Council will review that as quickly as possible. In addition to writing to the Vale anyone wishing to make their views known can email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Village Questionnaires from Saturday's meeting can be returned to: Meadow View, Faringdon Road (2 doors the mini roundabout side of the Scout Headquarters), or: 10 Larch Close, Southmoor.
